Everything happens for a Riesling
UnWINEd with The Wine Cellar
The Wine Cellar has been supplying the Queen City with the very best in wine making supplies—and the advice and facilities to make and bottle wine—for 28 years. The wine making company opened in 1994 in what was the “old Superstore”, spent 20 years in Regal Plaza, and now calls 2300 Dewdney Avenue in the Warehouse District home.
The owners, Heike Edwards and John Doerksen, and the Wine Cellar team love to share their passion for creating quality wines with everyone interested in giving winemaking a try. “Making wine is fun, and it’s easy,” says Heike. “Our on premise winery is the perfect place to have us make your wine, or, of course, you can make it at home yourself. We’re always here to help you with that.”
Kits Aplenty
The Wine Cellar carries the kits you’ll need to get started in the winemaking process. They offer four, six and eight-week kits that create wines for all tastes and budgets. Offering a great selection of reds, whites and rosés, their quality wine kits are just like the wines you find at the liquor store and cost far less per bottle.
The Wine Cellar’s on-premises winery is state-of-the-art, sanitized and controlled, and designed to make your wine in a few easy steps. First, you pick your kit and add the yeast into your juice. Then, under the guidance of their Winemaker, your kit is turned into wine at The Wine Cellar in four to eight weeks, depending on the kit you selected. When your wine is ready, it’s filtered and then it’s time for you to bottle it at the store with their help, using their winery bottle filler, corker and shrink cap machine. This is also the time to add some great labels, if you so choose. Your last step is taking it home to enjoy.
Beer, too!
The Wine Cellar also offers craft beer, cider and seltzer kits and all the equipment you’ll need to brew your own at home. Ciders and seltzers can also be made at the store. The Wine Cellar carries a large selection of all kits. “As with the wine kits, if you’re making any of the products at home, we are here to provide the advice you need,” says Heike. “People are always pleasantly surprised with the quality of craft made products when they first start out, and everyone loves the lower per bottle price.”
