Everything Old Is New Again - Talent & Tradition Rule at Bluecore Barber Company

When you think of the word “barber”, what comes to mind? Red, white and blue poles, ornate leather chairs, straight razors, buzzing clippers, and a lineup of men, sitting and shooting the breeze while waiting their turn? That’s a barber shop from the days of yore...and that barber shop experience can be had at Bluecore Barber Company.

Kick It Old School

Owner Jason Zalusky, a former trucker and proud blue-collar guy, decided a few years ago that he needed a change. He hung up his keys and headed to Utah to learn his new trade—real, old-school barbering. “Traditional barbering is a lost art. I wanted to bring back this skill set, and I had to head out of the country to find it,” says Jason. “My instructors were all traditionally-trained barbers and had been barbering for decades. Each one was sharp as a tack and talented in their trade.” Jason returned to Canada, became a Red Seal Journeyman barber and set out to ply his trade.

After some time with another local shop, he decided to ful ll his dream of opening his own traditional barber shop—with his own twist. A long-time antique collector and lover of the days past, he restored original 1910 barber chairs, and used barnboard from the family homestead for the shop’s doors. The shop is dedicated to the people who build and grow our country—the blue-collar workers that Jason is so proud to be part of.

Today, Bluecore Barber Company offers the city’s men an experience like no other. First, you’re more than welcome to pop by for a chat long before or after your serviceis done. “Barber shops do more than just cut hair or shave faces,” says Jason. “The barber shop is a place to connect with people and get away from it all.”

When they say traditional barber, they mean it. Customers can book themselves for a traditional cut,a good ol’ buzz cut and even a hot towel straight razor shave— and all include a hot lather neck shave. And, you can enjoy all of that with a local beer or spirit to boot. “Everyone needs the barber experience,” says Jason. “Not just because you get a great haircut, but because you get to be part of something more. Come down and become part of the Bluecore Army.”
