Exploring Hidden Gems in Canada's Most Notorious City

Exploring Hidden Gems in Canada's Most Notorious City

Tree lined streets with cobblestone walkways, nine blocks of independently owned shops, boutiques and restaurants, and a trolley that makes it's rounds to all the historic and unique locations around the city—these are just some of the charming and engaging things you'll find while visiting downtown Moose Jaw this spring and summer!

The sights and sounds of our notoriously quaint little city might be something you've experienced before, or perhaps you haven't thought about us for a little getaway yet. Either way, we want to share with you a few of our hidden gems, that make up a busy, fun, relaxing and affordable holiday waiting for you in Moose Jaw.

Things to Do

Of course you know about the famous Moose Jaw Tunnels! But did you know they opened up a new tour in 2021? It's focused on the cold war, and the role Moose Jaw military base plays in our city. It's called Bunker 24, and it will capture your attention from the first few minutes, right through to the moment you re-emerge from the bunker itself.

But did you know Moose Jaw is home to some of the best escape rooms in Western Canada? Little Chicago Entertainment has it all—exciting and challenging escape rooms, axe throwing and a speak-easy type lounge and board game cafe. Fun for the whole family, or a great girls/guys experience, you have to check them out!

For an active change in pace, you need to spend some time out at Battlecreek Adventure Park. Mini golf, paintball, beach volleyball and more will ensure your crew is kept busy and challenged for hours!

If you're looking for something more relaxed, the options are endless. Spas such as Sahara Spa, Wrapture Spa, Elite Training Centre and the Suntree Spa in the Temple Gardens Hotel & Resort offer soothing and decadent treatments, ranging in prices that will suit anyone's budget!

Take a walk in beautiful Crescent Park, situated in downtown Moose Jaw, steps away from Temple Gardens and Casino Moose Jaw. If you're up for a more rustic view, Wakamow Valley is a bird watcher's paradise and offers more than 25km of trails to explore.

Mae Wilson Theatre and Mosaic Place are two spectacular venues that feature live entertainment, with something to suit everything from concerts and plays to sporting events and tradeshows!

Places to Shop

Moose Jaw is known far and wide for some of the most unique, independently owned shops and boutiques you'll find anywhere! Home decor gets a major upgrade from fabulous stores like Jillian's Design Elements, The Flower Station, 28 Decor and the Yvette Moore Gallery. Thoughtful gifts and souvenirs can be found at A Perfect Find, The Souvenir Shop, Vintage Vinyl & Hemp Emporium, Ellen's On Main, Organically Connected and Past Times Photography & Gifts. If designer clothing is what you're looking for, you'll find the best names at Clothes Encounters, LaBoutique, Gemmell's Shoes, New Board Shop, Boh's Cycle, Cranberry Collective and Cranberry Consignment.

For a special mix of shopping and experience, you need to visit Fifth Avenue Collection Jewellery to see their beautiful home office for their internationally sought after Swarovski crystal based jewellery, Prairie Bee Meadery for their extensive selection of Saskatchewan made products, featuring their locally produced honey mead, and Lion's Creek for olive oil and balsamic tastings.

If you want to know where the locals go, there are several hotspots you can't miss! Cask 82 is a casual pub with some serious upscale eats. Tender BBQ ribs, mouth watering steak, hand-pressed burgers and a killer cocktail list will make for some great grown up time! Live music every Friday and Saturday will have you dancing and singing along.

Saigon 75 has noodle bowls to write home about. Seriously—take some pictures, because that's going on Instagram! For another experience of authentic Asian cuisine visit Nit's Thai food. Known across Canada for their Pad Thai and Coconut Lime Leaves, you'll see why people make the day trip from Regina just for this little spot! If sushi makes you swoon, then you'll love Mitsu. They have a beautiful restaurant that specializes in Japanese food and bakery treats.

Speaking of treats, some of the best coffee this side of the 49th can be found in Moose Jaw! The Hive is famous for it's Hive Latte and lineup of Americanos. And you can't miss their scones! Evolve is where you want to go for locally roasted coffee beans, and arguably the best London Fog around. Their macarons and other baked goods will also have you hooked like we are!
