Spiced Raisin Gems - Fresh Magazine

These spicy, soft cookies are perfect for a cookie exchange or just because.

3⁄4 cup butter or margarine, softened

1 cup sugar

1⁄4 cup molasses

1 egg

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp cinnamon

1⁄2 tsp cloves

1⁄2 tsp ginger

1⁄4 tsp salt

1 cup raisins

Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl until fluffy. Add molasses and egg. Mix well. Combine flour, baking soda, spices, and salt; add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Stir in raisins. Cover and chill for one hour.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Shape dough into 1” balls. Roll in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until set.

Makes approximately 3 dozen cookies!
