You Glow Girl - Spring Skincare Secrets with DermaPosh

Spring is here at last and has us dreaming about warm days and blue skies. We’ve made it through a winter—and an experience—for the history books. With the season change, it’s time to freshen up your skincare routine. Trust me, you and your skin deserve it. We have some ideas to keep your skincare routine fresh and light for spring. It’s never too early to start prepping your skin for our amazing Saskatchewan summers.

Exfoliate – We’ve been busy layering our hydrating serums and ultra-moisturizing creams all winter trying to stave off the dreaded winter skin. It’s now the time to use a gentle, natural exfoliator to get your spring glow on. Your skincare products will be so much more effective when the dead skin cells aren’t there, absorbing them before your fresh skin can.

SPF – The UV rays in the spring can be so dangerous because it doesn’t feel very warm yet, especially with our cool spring winds. However, the UV index jumps quickly in the spring so it’s time to increase your sunscreen use. Don’t forget to reapply! The SPF in your day cream applied early in the morning is no longer protecting you when you head out on your lunch break to sit in the park or take a walk around the lake. Sunscreen is typically active for only two hours after application. Keep sunscreen with you for easy application before you head out.

Spring clean – Throw out the jars. Any jarred skincare product open for more than six months must go, because bacteria can grow easily in them. Pumps and other sealed containers are typically okay to store for about a year. Also, some products lose their ef cacy thelonger they sit on your shelf. This can be a bummer when you realize you have a few products to replace, but your skin will thank you for it.

Lighten up – You might not needas moisturizing a day cream in the spring as you did in the winter. Try instead a tinted moisturizer, a beauty balm (BB) or colour correcting (CC) cream that promises to help conceal blemishes, add colour and correct the appearance of imperfections.

Allergy aware – Spring allergies can increase our sensitivity. Try using low scent products and the correct application of eye creams and serums. Apply a very small amount of product and gently tap—never pull or rub your eye area. Avoid getting your product too close to your eye as your natural eye movement pulls the product even closer to your delicate, sensitive eyes.

Try something new – Now is the perfect time to try a new treatment for your skin. Whether you prefer to pamper yourself at home or in studio, a new exfoliator followed by one of the fantastic new sheet masks available now will make you feel and look fabulous. Spring is the perfect time for fresh new treatments to spoil yourself with something new.

Routine – If you don’t have a skincare routine, now is the time to start. With flowers budding and birds chirping, it’s time to love your skin and get your glow on!
