Apple Pie Slice

Filling
8 cups apples, peeled and sliced
⅓ cup light brown sugar
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
⅛ tsp salt

Crust
½ cup butter, softened
¼ cup granulated sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ tsp salt

Crumble topping
¼ cup granulated sugar
½ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup butter
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 350℉. Line a 9x9” pan with parchment paper and lightly grease, set aside.

Place apples in a saucepan and cook over medium-low heat until apples are slightly soft, stirring frequently. When apples are soft, drain away any excess water and cool for at least 10 minutes. When cooled, transfer to a bowl and add sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg, stirring to combine.

In another small bowl, mix together sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt until combined for the crumb topping. Cut in butter with a fork, a pastry cutter, or your hands until crumbly. Set aside.

In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar for 60 seconds, then add vanilla. Beat until incorporated, and then add flour and salt. Beat until coarse, large crumbs form. Place dough into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, using lightly floured hands, press it into an even layer.

Spread the apple filling evenly over the crust and then sprinkle crumb topping over filling.

Bake at 350℉. 50-55 minutes or until the topping is set and the filling is bubbly. Cool before serving. Slice into squares and serve with whipped cream.
