How to help Ukraine

In late February, Russia invaded Ukraine—setting off a conflict that has sent Ukrainian citizens fleeing for safety, displacing millions throughout the region. As the war continues, the need for help grows with each passing day. Despite the distance between Canada and Ukraine, there are ways you can help.

Donate where it counts

Ukrainian Red Cross – The Red Cross is on the ground in Ukraine, providing supplies and services to families, emergency workers and more. The organization is distributing food, medical supplies, clothing, hygiene kits and other vital resources. As well, they are supporting health care, repairing infrastructure and helping families stay in touch. Learn more at

Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal – The Appeal was started by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) and the Canada-Ukraine Foundation (CUF). Both organizations are working with the Ukrainian government to send Canadian donations to Ukraine. They are delivering aid for food packages, medicine, and shelter to local partners in Ukraine. UNICEF Canada – UNICEF has been working in Ukraine since 2014, and is now providing safe water and sanitation supplies, medical and health care, educational materials and more for Ukraine’s children. Donate at

UNHCR – The UN Refugee Agency is working with Ukrainian authorities, the United Nations and partners to assist with the growing refugee crisis in the area. The UNHCR is helping fleeing Ukrainians in the border countries to Ukraine. Learn more at

CARE Canada - CARE is working with partners in Poland, Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine to support women, girls, families and the elderly with much-needed emergency supplies including food, water, hygiene kits, psycho-social support, and cash to cover daily needs. Visit

Help matters

As the crisis rages on, Ukrainians need urgent help with their day-to-day survival in the country. As well, t those displaced into other countries in Europe and around the world need assistance as their lives and livelihoods have been upended for the foreseeable future.
