A new era for the Globe Theatre: A grand return to Regina’s stage
The reopening of the Globe Theatre in Regina, after years of anticipation, unveils a masterpiece that promises to enchant theatregoers for generations to come. Under the artistic direction of Jennifer Brewin, the theatre celebrates its inaugural act of a three-part reopening this fall, launching with the holiday favourite Peter Pan—an iconic choice that echoes the theatre’s sense of wonder and history. “This theatre is a testament to our patrons, to the people who have supported us through the years,” says Jennifer. “It’s thrilling to finally open the doors and let people see the magic that’s been crafted here.”
The first act: A long-awaited unveiling
The restoration of this beloved theatre has been years in the making, with setbacks due to the pandemic and the challenges of renovating a heritage building. Now, in late November, audiences are welcomed into a space that blends modern convenience with timeless charm. Entering through the new street-level box office on Scarth Street, patrons are greeted by an inviting coat check area, followed by the grand staircase—a striking addition with two flights leading up to the theatre. There are also two elevators for those who prefer a “ride.” From there, the theatre reveals itself in arena style, where guests enter from above, offering a fresh perspective on a classic layout.
Modern comfort, timeless charm
The new seating is carefully designed with comfort in mind. Seats are larger, with added legroom and cup holders for a more relaxed experience. Two accessible box-style seating areas provide ample space for patrons with mobility devices, with additional stage-level seating options, making the theatre experience inclusive for everyone. Enhancing the ambience, two bars with large windows offer beautiful views of the city, perfect for enjoying pre-show and intermission drinks.
“We’ve worked hard to bring this theatre back to life,” she says. “It’s been a community effort, a journey that’s seen so much dedication. Now, people can enjoy this space as it was meant to be enjoyed—with artists creating magic onstage and audiences coming together to witness it.”
A season to celebrate
The Globe Theatre’s grand reopening will unfold over three acts, with Act 1 launching this fall. Act 2 will see the unveiling of new offices and workspaces this spring, and finally, the third act will present the completed theatre in all its glory—a perfect stage for the imaginative productions and vibrant artistry the Globe is known for.
With a season packed full of talent and inspiration, the Globe Theatre invites audiences to celebrate the return of live theatre in a venue built with passion and resilience. This Prairie gem is ready to enchant, inspire, and transform.
