Built From the Ground Up

Safrane Construction continues to grow through strong values, skilled people and a commitment to doing things right.

Back in May 2010, Brant Safinuk and Geoff Cochrane were just two guys with construction experience, a shared vision and a trailer full of tools. Tired of working for other people, they decided it was time to go out on their own and launch a company. “We took on small projects and did the work ourselves,” Safinuk says. “We didn’t have a big crew or fancy equipment, but we were hands-on from the start, and we made sure everything was done right.”

That commitment paid off. Within a year, they hired their first employee and started taking on more residential concrete work. As word spread and demand grew, so did the business. Today, Safrane Construction has a full-time team of 35 and specializes in commercial and industrial concrete work across Saskatchewan—though they still take on select residential jobs when the right opportunity comes along.

Geoff has since retired, and the business is now co-owned by Safinuk and his wife, Amy, who’s a full-time teacher. While she’s not on-site, Safinuk says her support has played a big role behind the scenes.

“Amy and I have built this company alongside our family,” he says. “We’ve got three kids now, and the same values we live by at home—hard work, honesty, doing what’s right—those are the values that drive how we do business.”

The right team makes all the difference

Safinuk is quick to point out that Safrane’s success isn’t just about concrete—it’s about the people pouring it. “We’ve got guys who’ve been with us for over 10 years,” he says. “That kind of loyalty is rare, and it says a lot about our culture.”

He credits the long-term team with helping Safrane maintain consistently high standards. With so much experience on the crew, everyone knows the process inside and out—and that experience shows on the jobsite. “We’re more like a family than a team,” Safinuk says. “When you’ve worked together that long, you trust each other, you communicate better, and you take real pride in what you’re building.”

Projects with purpose

Safrane takes on all kinds of projects, but the team especially enjoys the larger, more complex jobs that have a lasting impact in the community. “We love the big commercial projects where our whole crew can really step up,” Safinuk says. “There’s a lot of pride in building something that’s going to be part of the community for years to come.”

Some of the projects Safrane is especially proud of include the new Costco in East Regina, the Regina Waste Management Facility and the Regina Humane Society. In Saskatoon, they’ve poured for the SGEU office and a major medical facility. “These jobs take precision and coordination, and that’s where we thrive,” he says. “Our crew knows how to handle tight timelines and complicated logistics, and we always aim to deliver top-notch work.”

While commercial and industrial builds are the focus, Safrane still tackles the occasional high-end residential project, especially when the homeowner is looking for custom concrete work.

Keeping clients happy—and coming back

For Safinuk, customer satisfaction isn’t just about getting the job done—it’s about building trust and earning repeat business. “We want our clients to feel confident choosing us, knowing we’ll deliver exactly what we said we would,” he says. “We’re big on communication. We listen, we’re clear about what to expect, and we’re there when we say we will be.”

Safrane also prides itself on doing the job right the first time, with careful attention to detail from start to finish. “Our team takes a lot of pride in their work,” Safinuk says. “Whether it’s prepping a site or finishing a slab, they’re focused on the details.”

From vision to finished build

One of the best parts of the job, Safinuk says, is seeing a client’s vision come to life. “There’s something special about watching a project go from an idea on paper to a real structure standing there,” he says. “That process never gets old.”

It’s also rewarding to see how much pride his crew takes in their work—and how clients respond when everything comes together. “It’s not just about pouring concrete,” he says. “It’s about building something solid—something that lasts. That’s what we aim for every time.”

A company built to last

Fifteen years in, Safrane Construction is still growing—thanks to a team that cares about the work, a reputation built on trust and a commitment to doing things right. “We started with some tools, a trailer and a lot of ambition,” Safinuk says. “Now we’ve got a company we’re proud of—and we’re just getting started.”
