HEARING WITH HEART

HEARING WITH HEART

Cristina Carteri of Optimal Hearing helps Regina stay connected one conversation at a time.

Cristina Carteri never sets out to “sell” hearing aids. What she offers at Optimal Hearing is something far more personal: confidence, connection and the comfort of being part of the conversation again.

As the owner of Optimal Hearing in Regina, Cristina brings more than technical expertise to her clients. She also brings lived experience, compassion and a deep belief in the value of hearing well at every age.

Cristina’s journey begins with a diploma from Grant MacEwan College’s Hearing Aid Practitioner program in Edmonton. After graduation, she returned to Saskatchewan and spent several years working with the Regina Qu’Appelle Health District’s Hearing Aid Plan. When the program ended in 2017, Cristina found herself at a crossroads. She was the mother of two young children and pregnant with her third. She never imagined starting her own clinic, but those around her did.

“Friends and clients kept telling me I should consider opening something of my own,” she says. “At first, I didn’t think I could do it. But with their encouragement, I took the leap.”

That leap became Optimal Hearing, which opened its doors eight years ago—and she hasn’t looked back since.

Helping people stay connected

For Cristina, hearing care is about more than ears—it’s about preserving the joy and fullness of daily life. Raised in a large Italian family where food and loud conversations filled every gathering, she knows how vital sound is to staying engaged with loved ones.

“As my own family members aged, I started to notice that hearing loss was changing how we interacted,” she says. “People were pulling back. Conversations quieted down. The energy shifted.”

That experience shapes the work Cristina does today. She knows it’s not always easy to admit there might be a hearing issue, and for many, taking the first step can be intimidating.

“I know it’s a delicate time for people, and we take the time and care needed to help people get the hearing help they need,” she says. “Testing is simple and painless, and it opens the door to better communication and quality of life.”

Breaking the stigma around hearing aids

Cristina also wants to change the way people think about hearing aids. She says too many people still picture bulky, uncomfortable devices and outdated stereotypes.

“Hearing aids have come a long way,” she says. “They’re discreet, high-tech and designed to improve your life, not complicate it.”

Whether it’s someone who’s constantly asking others to repeat themselves, or a family member who finds themselves stepping back from conversations, Cristina encourages a gentle, supportive approach.

“If you think someone you love may be struggling, come with them. Book a hearing test too. It makes all the difference when you do it together.”

At Optimal Hearing, clients get clear advice, personalized recommendations and ongoing support from someone who truly understands.

Cristina’s message is simple: Don’t wait. Don’t miss out on the sounds and moments that matter most.
