PRAIRIE CHARM JUST EAST OF THE CITY
Emerald Park, White City, Pilot Butte, Balgonie and Edenwold welcome you.
Just a few minutes east of Regina along Highway 1, you’ll find four neighbouring communities that each bring their own charm, character and sense of prairie pride. Whether you’re stopping in for a visit or considering calling one of them home, Emerald Park, White City, Pilot Butte Balgonie and Edenwold offer a warm welcome and plenty to see and do.
Explore and unwind
Emerald Park and White City are often spoken of together, with their shared amenities and welcoming feel. The area is known for its gorgeous walking paths, peaceful parks and family-friendly vibe. The White Butte Trails just north of town are a local favourite for hiking and cross-country skiing, with over 13 kilometres of scenic trails winding through aspen and spruce trees.
In town, you’ll find several locally owned spots to grab coffee, a meal or some sweet treats. There’s also a well-loved garden centre, boutique shops and wellness studios sprinkled throughout. For golfers, the nearby Aspen Links Golf Course offers 18 beautiful holes, with a popular clubhouse restaurant that draws visitors for its prairie views and tasty fare.
Local history buffs will enjoy the White Butte Museum’s displays and walking tours, offering glimpses into the area’s early days as a quarry and brickmaking hub.
Community spirit in full swing
Just down the road is Pilot Butte, known as the “town that cares” – and it lives up to the name. Community spirit shines through in events like the Pilot Butte Rodeo and annual summer fair. The recreation centre is always buzzing, with indoor skating, youth programs and fitness classes.
The Butte itself, a natural hill formed by glacial activity, offers great views of the surrounding prairie and is a fun short climb for visitors looking to stretch their legs.
Small-town warmth in Balgonie
Continue east and you’ll hit Balgonie, a small town with a big heart. With its own schools, shops and services, it has everything you need for a day trip or a comfortable stay. The Balgonie Stardome hosts plenty of hockey, while the town’s outdoor pool and sports fields keep things lively in summer.
Balgonie hosts regular events at the Multiplex, including holiday markets, craft sales and family dances - and even a dinner theatre!
A quiet country gem in Edenwold
A little off the main highway, Edenwold is a quieter rural community with deep agricultural roots. Surrounded by farmland and prairie skies, it's a peaceful spot that offers space to breathe. It's a reminder that prairie life thrives not just in towns, but in these quiet corners too.
Plan your visit
All five communities boast an easy drive from Regina, with scenic country roads and a prairie skyline that’s hard to beat. Whether you’re browsing a local market, enjoying a trail walk, or catching a hockey game or fair, you’ll find a true sense of connection in these close-knit towns.
Take the quick drive east and discover what makes these communities such special places to visit—and to stay awhile.
